Riverlon™ is a nylon monofilament nonabsorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of the long-chain aliphatic polymers Nylon type 6 or Nylon type 6/6. Monofilament Nylon suture may be either dyed black (logwood), dyed blue (FD&C Blue No.2) or white (undyed). Nylon suture is coated with silicone.
Characteristics
- Uniform diameter of the suture
- Maximum flexibility of the strand
- Excellent and consistent knot security
- Minimal memory
Indications
Riverlon™ suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological procedures.
Actions
Riverlon™ suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, which is followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue.
Tensile Strength
As with any nylon suture, though not absorbed, progressive hydrolysis of the suture in vivo may result in gradual loss of tensile strength over time. Nylon suture should not be used where permanent retention of tensile strength is required.
Sterilization
Ethylene oxide.
